GETTING AROUND CHINA BY PLANE

China has 259 commercial airports.

The five major international airports are Beijing Capital Airport, Beijing Daxing Airport, Shanghai Pudong Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and Hong Kong Airport.

Other important regional airports are Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, Shenzhen Bao'an Airport, Kunming Changshui Airport, Xi'an Xianyang Airport, Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, Chongqing Jiangbei Airport, Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport, Xiamen Gaoqi Airport, Changsha Huanghua Airport, Qingdao Liuting Airport, Tianjin Binhai Airport, Harbin Taiping Airport, Nanning Wuxu Airport, Guilin Liangjiang Airport and Sanya Phoenix Airport.

There are several domestic carriers operating in China and Hong Kong, including full-service carriers: China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Xiamen Air, Hong Kong Airlines, Cathay Pacific and low-cost carriers.

GETTING AROUND CHINA BY TRAIN

The railway network in China consists of 112,000 kilometers of rail tracks, including 16,000 kilometers of highspeed dedicated tracks.

To achieve a complete coverage of the railway transportation across the nation, China Railway (CR) operates several types of intercity trains, including high-speed trains and conventional trains.

CRH is the high-speed railway service operated by China Railway (CR) with trains running at a maximum speed of 250–350 km/h. Conventional trains are hauled by electric and diesel locomotives that run on electrified rail tracks at a maximum speed of 120–160 km/h.

The major railway stations are Beijing West, Beijing South, Xi An North, Shanghai Hongqiao, Hangzhou East, Chongqing East, Chengdu East, Kunming South, Guangzhou South, Shenzhen North and Hong Kong West Kowloon.

Rail services in China are operated by China Railway (CR), a state-owned company under the control of the Ministry of Finance.

In the present, China Railway (CR) is divided in 18 subsidiaries dedicated to provide passenger train services in different regions of China: CR Harbin and CR Shenyang in the Northeast, CR Beijing, CR Hohhot and CR Taiyuan in the North, CR Lanzhou, CR Urumqi and CR Xi'an in the Northwest, CR Jinan, CR Shanghai and CR Nanchang in the East, CR Guangzhou and CR Nanning in the South, CR Wuhan and CR Zhengzhou in the Central region, CR Chengdu, CR Kunming and CR Qingzang in the Southwest.
