GETTING AROUND THAILAND BY PLANE

Thailand has 33 commercial airports.

The four major international airports are Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport serving Bangkok, Chiang Mai Airport and Phuket Airport.

Other important regional airports are Chiang Rai Airport, Udon Thani Airport, U-Tapao–Rayong–Pattaya Airport, Samui Airport, Surat Thani Airport, Krabi Airport and Hat Yai Airport.

There are six domestic carriers operating in Thailand, two full-service carriers: Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways, and four low-cost carriers: Nok Air, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air and Thai VietJet Air.

GETTING AROUND THAILAND BY TRAIN

Thailand has 4,431 kilometres of metre gauge railway tracks, which consist of the SRT Northern Line, the SRT Northeastern Line, the SRT Eastern Line and the SRT Southern Line.

In the present, trains transiting the Thai railway network are pulled by diesel electric locomotives and diesel multiple units circulating at a top speed of 100 to 120 km/h.

The major railway stations are Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal and Hua Lamphong Station serving Bangkok, Chiang Mai Station in the North, Nong Khai Station and Ubon Ratchathani Station in the Northeast, Surat Thani Station in the Central Gulf Coast, and Hat Yai Station in the South.

The railway network in Thailand is managed by State Railway of Thailand (SRT), the state-owned rail operator under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport.

GETTING AROUND THAILAND BY BUS

Travelling by bus in Thailand is an affordable way to reach the popular tourist destinations out of the railway network or inaccessible by plane.

Seated buses generally cover long distances during daytime or overnight and connect two or more cities in different provinces.

Minibuses and minivans generally cover short distances during daytime and connect cities in the same province or neighbor provinces.

The major bus stations are Mo Chit Bus Terminal (Chatuchak), Bangkok South Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) and Bangkok East Bus Terminal (Ekkamai) in Bangkok, Chiang Mai Arcade 2 Bus Station and Chiang Mai Arcade 3 Bus Station, and Surat Thani Bus Terminal.

Road transportation in Thailand is carried out by three types of vehicles: seated buses, minibuses and minivans.

The bus companies Bangkok Busline, Budsarakam Tour, Lignite Tour, The Transport Co Ltd, Phantip Travel and Prempracha operate modern fleets of vehicles equipped with air-conditioning, seats and on-board amenities.
