GETTING AROUND MALAYSIA BY PLANE

Malaysia has 38 commercial airports.

The seven major international airports are Kuala Lumpur International Airport serving Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi Airport, Penang Airport, Sultan Azlan Shah Airport serving Ipoh, Senai Airport serving Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu Airport and Kuching Airport.

Other important regional airports are Sultan Abdul Halim Airport serving Alor Setar, Sultan Ismail Petra Airport serving Kota Bahru, Malacca Airport and Miri Airport.

There are four domestic carriers operating in Malaysia, two full-service carriers: Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air Malaysia, and two low-cost carriers: AirAsia and Firefly.

GETTING AROUND MALAYSIA BY TRAIN

Peninsular Malaysia has 1,699 kilometres of metre gauge railway tracks.

In the present, three types of train services circulate in Peninsular Malaysia: KTM ETS, KTM Intercity and KTM.

KTM ETS is a high-speed rail service that operates along the West Coast Line between Padang Besar and Johor Bahru up to 140 km/h, KTM Intercity is a diesel-hauled rail service than runs along the East Coast Line between Tumpat and Johor Bahru up to 110 km/h, and KTM Komuter is a commuter rail service that operates up to 120 km/h.

The major railway stations are KL Sentral and Kuala Lumpur Station serving Kuala Lumpur, Butterworth Station serving Penang, JB Sentral Station serving Johor Bahru in the West Coast, and Tumpat Station in the East Coast.

The railway network in Malaysia is operated by KTM Berhad, a corporation owned by the Malaysian government.

GETTING AROUND MALAYSIA BY BUS

Travelling by bus in Malaysia is an affordable way to reach the popular tourist destinations out of the railway network or inaccessible by plane.

Seated buses generally cover long distances during daytime or overnight and connect two or more cities in different states.

The major bus stations are Bersepadu Selatan Bus Terminal and Hentian Duta Bus Terminal in Kuala Lumpur, Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal and Penang Sentral Bus Station in Penang, Amanjaya Bus Terminal in Ipoh, Melaka Sentral Bus Terminal in Malacca, and Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal in Johor Bahru.

Road transportation in Malaysia is carried out by highway buses.

The bus companies KKKL Express, Maraliner, Perdana Express, Starmart Express and Unititi Express operate modern fleets of vehicles equipped with air-conditioning, seats and on-board amenities.
